Axle Scales-Features

Applications like distribution centers, fuel stops, and loading stations make it compulsory for industries to use axle scales. But they are not the only application. Axle scales are a less-expensive substitute for bigger truck scales, and because of their durability, they’re a long-term solution as they check and confirm compliance with highway weight regulations.
Standard Features
Since they are usually engaged to test weighing applications when drivers want to monitor their shipping activity, avoid tickets for hauling overweight trucks, or simply to check up on the data for general industrial operations and avoiding an increase in vehicle maintenance costs, axle systems do not fall under the legal-for-trade category. That is, data from the scales is not used to determine sales.
The fact that the truck needs to drive over and stop when the set of wheels are on the scale for calculating the gross weight of truck implies that axle scales are engineered to suit heavy industrial use.
Generally, axle scales exhibit these qualities:
  • They are made of steel or aluminum
  •  They are available in different capacities, sizes, and configurations according to field verified specifications so that they are capable of weighing anything irrespective of whether it’s a single or a multi-axle vehicle
  •  They have a smooth or treaded top plate
  • They offer overload protection
Portable Design V/S Permanent Scale Installation
The two options that individuals need to consider when shopping for axle scales are whether they should have it installed at the site or not.
Portable axle scales are quickly gaining popularity for obvious reasons: they are adaptable and easy to use than the large, full-length truck scales. What’s more is that some farmers don’t even require a full truck scale. They can use the portable yet robust scale to weigh the input at seeding or the product that they secure at harvesting time instantly and efficiently in various places throughout the land.
Operators can maximize the load, observing simultaneously the total trailer weight as they do so. They won’t have to wait in a long queue to obtain a weight reading, moving to and from the scale and load to secure the maximum weight limit allowed. Saves a lot of time and effort without affecting productivity, doesn’t it?
Permanent axle scales, on the other hand, are ones that require a shallow pit to be installed. They are designed for all sorts of heavy duty weighing of equipments ranging from shovel to full-sized trucks. As a weighing solution, these are considered extremely accurate. And they require low maintenance too, which is an added bonus because customers won’t have to worry about facing troubles on the field. The concrete foundation can be cleaned – and repaired if need be – easily, thereby increasing the life of the scales.
Another benefit to installing a permanent scale system is that sub-operators will have access to it at any time they want to check on their assets. The process won’t be stopped because the person responsible to set it up wasn’t available on site at that moment. By extension, this also reduces overhead costs.
